Trish’s Tiny Tots August Newsletter

“If a child is given love, he becomes loving ... If he's helped when he needs help, he becomes helpful. And if he has been truly valued at home ... he grows up secure enough to look beyond himself to the welfare of others.”

Welcome August! I hope all of our Tiny Tot families had a wonderful celebration with your families on Independence Day.  We learned a lot about this special day as we discussed freedom, liberty and why it is so important to celebrate America’s Birthday

July was an exciting, water blasting time for Trish’s Tiny Tots as we celebrated Independence Day, splashed into Surf’s Up Week, strolled into our Country Fair theme and learned about the importance of Friendship.  As we are in the heart of our summer season, we have begun to use water sensory as part of our outdoor activities (weather permitting). Please send in a bathing suit, towel and water shoes (or old sneakers that can get wet) as well as sunblock and a signed permission slip if it has not been sent in. Please do not send them in a plastic bag as this can be hazardous to young children. A canvas bag with a short handle is preferred. All bags will be in the children’s cubbies so please check for wet bathing suits and towels.

Our program has made a few adjustments as we comply with the new WAC’s recently introduced for childcare providers in Washington State.  You will notice some changes on our playground, as well as additional posted material and an updated Parent Policy for your review, reference and signature.  If you have not yet updated your Parent Policy, please see me.

Upcoming Events: Mark your calendars!!! End of Summer Ice Cream Social! This event will be held on Friday September 7th at 7:00 PM.  The event will be held at the Skate Park in Eatonville.  Ice cream will be provided and I am asking that each family bring a favorite topping (ex. Gummy bears, sprinkles, chocolate syrup, whipped cream, chocolate chips, crushed pineapple and don’t forget to add the cherry on top!) We will also be singing Happy Birthday to our many Birthday boys and girls we have in August! These Tiny Tots are entering a new phase in their growth and development this month and it’s an absolute blessing to be a part of this amazing experience.

This Month: Weekly Lesson plans will be themed around Splish Splash, Olympic Games and Puppet Madness! We will continue the process of ABC review as well as additional curriculum such as two letter sounds, and site words. We will learn the sounds of the letters, the sign and practice writing them. We will talk about shapes, colors and numbers and continue to review them for consistency. We will be learning about the months of the year, days of the week and the weather! Each week will also talk about principles such as kindness, honesty, forgiveness and patience. I encourage you all to review the work the children take home. I would like them to share with you the topics they learn about, so as parents you can continue to review with them for consistency. This month will be the last month of review as we begin a new year of Preschool curriculum starting in September.

Trish’s Tiny Tots July Newsletter
"You have to love a nation that celebrates its independence every July 4, not with a parade of guns, tanks, and soldiers who file by the White House in a show of strength and muscle, but with family picnics where kids throw Frisbees, the potato salad gets iffy, and the flies die from happiness. You may think you have overeaten, but it is patriotism."
Author: Erma Bombeck

Welcome July! I hope all of our Tiny Tot Daddy’s had a wonderful celebration with your families on Father’s Day.  Each child was anxious to give their Daddy’s their very special donut (mostly excited to share it with them) as well as sharing the little treasures they had been working on here. Our Tiny Tot Daddy’s are so loved and appreciated for all of their devotion, leadership and strength they contribute to our families.
June was an adventurous time for Trish’s Tiny Tots as we celebrated Father’s Day, talked about the fun and safety of camping and fishing outdoors and as we anticipate Independence Day we made some fun flags and firework displays while learning the importance of following firework safety guidelines.  June was also Trish’s Tiny Tots ONE YEAR anniversary! Thank you to all of my amazing families who have been a part of my journey, and for those who have recently joined. I look forward to sharing my love and guidance with your precious children each and every day and I feel so blessed for the opportunity. As we have entered our summer season, we have begun to use water sensory as part of our outdoor activities (weather permitting). Please send in a bathing suit, towel and water shoes (or old sneakers that can get wet) as well as sunblock and a signed permission slip if it has not been sent in. Also, please note that the weekly lesson plans and menus have been moved to the preschool room instead of the foyer. Please take some time to check out the new material posted. There have been updates to emergency procedures as well, which has been quite the blessing for all childcare facilities because the safety of your precious children is THE most important task we must be entrusted to accomplish. All of these administrative changes have really allowed me to see many more opportunities we can take advantage of to serve our families with the best care possible for your children.
This Month: Weekly Lesson plans will be themed around Happy Birthday America, Surf’s Up, Country Fair, Puppet Madness and Friendship Week! We will continue the process of ABC review as well as additional curriculum such as two letter sounds, and site words. We will learn the sounds of the letters, the sign and practice writing them. This month we are really going to focus on writing our names.  Many of our preschoolers have achieved this already, and many are really, really close! We will talk about shapes, colors and numbers and continue to review them for consistency. We will be learning about the months of the year, days of the week and the weather! Each week will also talk about principles such as kindness, honesty, forgiveness and patience. I encourage you all to review the work the children take home. Donuts for Daddy’s: Since Father’s Day lands on a Sunday this year, we are asking that parents sign up on our Daddy Donut sheet what the Daddy in your household’s favorite Donut is! If you could have this completed by Wednesday June 13th it would give me plenty of time to order the special treats for the children to give to their Daddy’s on the Friday before Father’s Day.

Parent Questionnaire: Please take time to complete the Parent Questionnaire located on the sign in/out cubbies.  I will be using some of these statements in my next childcare flyer. Your feedback is very important to me as it is a priority to serve your children’s needs and the needs of your own family values to maintain consistency, comfort and growth for your children. As Trish’s Tiny Tots celebrates our ONE YEAR anniversary, I would like to continue to evolve as accommodation is made for each and every family enrolled. Spread the word, we are now accepting ENROLLMENTS!!!!! J

April Showers Bring May Flowers

April showers bring May flowers… Right? Goodness we hope so! Our Tiny Tots are anxious to start planting our spring flowers and vegetables. This is the time of year we begin some outdoor bubble blowing, sidewalk chalk, jump roping, kite flying and much more! Outdoor sensory seems to always be full of endless, open ended activities for children to explore and learn. We never miss an opportunity to learn something new. As we begin to prepare for Easter, your children will be busy creating decorations to fill our classroom and your homes. These items in which your children put so much time and love into, will serve as precious keepsakes for each family.

Outdoor Reminder: Here at Trish’s Tiny Tots we make it a priority to go outside and get fresh air at least once a day.  Since this is a pretty rainy season here in the Great Northwest, please be sure to equip your children with suitable outdoor wear (rain boots, rain jackets, umbrellas or hats etc.)

This Month: Weekly Lesson plans will be themed around Easter Blessings, Farm Animals, Spring into Reading and Watch Us Bloom! I can’t believe we have gotten to the end of our alphabet! The preschoolers have done so well in this area of retention, and we will continue this process of ABC review as we also implement additional curriculum such as two letter sounds, and site words.

Easter Celebrations: Friday, April 6th we will be having our annual Easter Egg Hunt at 10:00 A.M. I am asking all families to donate 6-12 hard-boiled eggs for us to color throughout the week of April 2nd – April 5th.  The last day we will color eggs is on Thursday the 5th.  For the Easter Egg hunt, the children can bring their own baskets, or I will provide bags for their hunt J
Birthdays: This month we will be celebrating Kipton’s 2nd Birthday! We will sing him songs and have a special time during the day dedicated to celebrating this precious little Tiny Tot! Kipton, your presence has been such a blessing to Trish’s Tiny Tots.  We look forward to watching you continue to blossom as time goes by. We love you buddy!

Final Decision on Preschool Continuation: We have made the executive decision to continue Preschool all year long (even in the summer).  The only difference is in the summer, we will try to add one field trip per week that emphasizes on the preschool theme of the week.  Consistency is something all of our children thrive on, so to honor that regard I would like to continue the same type of daily schedule and learning atmosphere all year round. J

February 2012

February is here and love is in the air! Winter has definitely been in full force and it seems as though we have had a very eventful, stormy, exciting and unpredictable winter season this year!  This has been a great opportunity for the children to learn more about their surroundings, and how to prepare to for unpredictable emergencies. Our students have been able to get out and experience some of our winter wonderland – when the weather wasn’t too cold or wet. We are looking forward to some warmer weather as our little ones need to have more opportunities for outdoor play, and fresh air :)
Tax forms are complete and ready for each family! Please see me to retain for your records.
This Month: Weekly Lesson plans will be themed around hearts, Valentines, lovable pets and hand print seasons! We will review the letters A-S as we move on to T-W.  We will learn the sounds, the sign and practice writing it.  We will talk about shapes, colors and numbers and continue to review them for consistency.  We will be learning about the months of the year, days of the week and the weather!  Each week will also talk about principles such as kindness, honesty, forgiveness and patience. VALENTINE’S PARTY:  Tuesday, February 14th our class will be having a Valentine’s Day party in place of regular learning time/lunch.  We will feast on yummy, healthy lunch time foods, and end the meal with treats full of the best TLC! Parents, please feel free to donate healthy treats for this very special day.  Children are free to bring Valentines for the other classmates, but are not required.  If your family decides to do Valentines please be sure to send enough for the entire class, and just fill out the “from: s” while leaving the “to: s” blank.
Ill Children:  As we enter the coldest part of the year, illness seems to spread like crazy! Please remember to keep your children home if they present the following symptoms:
  • Fever of 100° or above
  • A contagious disease
  • Drainage from eye or pink eye
  • A weeping rash or itching associated with the rash
  • Sore throat
  • Diarrhea (three or more watery stools in a 24-Hr period)
  • Vomiting (two or more occasions within a 24-Hr period)
  • Children who are irritable or confused due to illness.
  • Children with lice will not be allowed to return until they are lice and nit free.

Love and Blessings, Trish Betschart
